Routing and Admission Control in the Multihop Wavelength-Division Optical Network

چکیده
A wavelength-division optical vetwork (WON) is a multihop, multichannel lightwave network based on wavelength-division multiplexing. Its wavelength-selectable, multitransceiver stations can be tuned to form many different virtual topologies. We study in this paper routing and admission control in the WON. We review the performance of routing algorithms for store-and-forward, deflection, and detour routing as well as the priority access mechanism (PAM) for admission control. Finally, we address virtual-topology design, demonstrating how optimization algorithms, such as simulated annealing, can be employed to determine near-optimal topologies for specific routing protocols.

A Routing Algorithm for Multihop WDM Ring
Divisor-Skip Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DS-WDM) ring is an optical interconnection network for workstation clusters or parallel machines which can connect various number of nodes easily using wavelength division multiplexing techniques. However, the wavelength-ordered routing algorithm proposed for the DS-WDM ring requires complicated processes in each router. Here, a new routing algorit...
متن کاملWDM Packet Routing for High-Capacity Data Networks
We present experimental and numerical studies of a novel packet-switch architecture, the data vortex, designed for large-scale photonic interconnections. The selfrouting multihop packet switch efficiently scales to large port counts ( 10 k) while maintaining low latencies, a narrow latency distribution, and high throughput. To facilitate optical implementation, the data-vortex architecture empl...

متن کاملA Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
متن کاملWeakly Versus Strongly Multihop Space-Division Optical Networks - Lightwave Technology, Journal of
Transparent multihop optical networks suffer from the accumulation from node to node of crosstalk and amplified spontaneous emission noise, which may severely degrade the quality of received signals. It is thus important to keep the number of intermediate hops as low as possible. This paper compares two single-wavelength cell-switching space-division optical networks that employ deflection rout...
